Dragons find success with 3s in panorama win
WILLIAMSBURG — With 11 3-pointers on Monday, the Harlan Green Dragons followed what they hope will be a successful formula this season. It worked well against Williamsburg in the Southeastern Kentucky Conference Panorama as the Dragons won both halves on the way to a 68-50 victory.
Junior guard Jared Hawkins hit three 3-pointers in a 13-point effort to lead the Dragons. Sophomore center Jon Eldridge also showed some range as he finished with 12 points. Eighth-grade guard Jordan Akal added 10 points.
Toby Cunningham, a senior guard, led Williamsburg with nine points. Slaht Hunter and Caleb Rose, both sophomores, added eight points each.
Jacob Wilson hit a pair of 3-pointers early as Harlan took an 11-6 lead before Williamsburg answered with an 11-0 run to take a 14-13 lead after one period.
Hawkins got the Dragons’ offense going in the second quarter as he hit three 3-pointers in the opening four minutes for a 24-19 lead. A basket by Akal and treys from Cade Barnes and Eldridge helped the Dragons win the first half 36-27.
Akal had the first six points for the Dragons in the second half, after the scoreboard was cleared, but it was all the offense that Harlan could manage as Williamsburg won the period 10-6 as Rose led the Jackets with three baskets.
