Hoping to begin construction for a new fire station, the Sunshine Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD) will host a “Raise the Roof” Halloween Extravaganza, beginning at 7 p.m. on Oct. 18 at the Harlan Center.
“Children and family activities, which includes door prizes, a costume contest, trick or treating, games and photos, will begin at 7 p.m. and last until 9 p.m.,” said SVFD Capt. Ashley Hatfield. “A photographer will be on hand at 6:30 p.m. to take photos of the children also.”
Beginning at 9 p.m. through midnight, adults will enjoy dinner, a dance, costume contest and a cash bar, Hatfield said.
“Site preparation is now being done in Sunshine where our new fire station will be built,” said Hatfield. “The new construction will include new offices, training room, sleeping quarters, along with equipment and truck storage.”
Hatfield added this construction is “33 years in the making.”
“We’ve outgrown the space where we are right now, which is in the bottom of the old National Guard Armory in Sunshine,” said Hatfield. “It’s very small and we need a much larger area to house our equipment.”
Hatfield continued by saying the new fire station will not only provide much needed space, but also provide an area for training needed by the fire department on a regular basis “in order to better protect the community for which they serve.”
“We hope everyone will make plans to come out and support this cause.”
Ticket prices for the children’s portion of the event will be $5 per person.
For the adult portion, ticket prices will be $10 for singles or $15 for couples. All proceeds from the event will benefit the new fire station construction.
Advance ticket purchases are recommended.
You may purchase tickets from any SVFD member or contact Hatfield at 909-2138 and leave a message or by email at email@example.com.
