The International Arts & Entertainment Festival will be held Saturday in the Godbey Appalachian Center located on the Cumberland campus of Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College.
The event will feature classes and lectures on various cultures beginning at 3 p.m.; a dinner highlighting foods from around the world will be served at 6 p.m. , followed by an international variety show showcasing area talent, all with a distinctive international flavor.
The event is being sponsored by the SKCTC Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Special Programs as well as the Theater Arts and Arts and Humanities divisions of the college. Carolyn Sundy, a vice president at Southeast, noted that members of communities throughout the region are urged to bring a dish to the dinner that will “highlight” a country and its culture. All food should be delivered to the foyer of the Godbey Appalachian Center no later than 5:30 p.m.
Following the dinner, Sundy noted the seventh International Arts and Entertainment Show will begin. Guests are urged to perform and should wear clothing from their native countries. Angie Doran, of Kingsport, Tenn., will be the featured artist as she presents various dances from across the globe.
The show will also include performances by students from Robyn’s Dance Academy, Heather Adams’ Academy of Dance, and musical performances by the Harlan Boys Choir Alumni, and pianist Ann Schertz, in collaboration with vocalists Ryland Pope and Tammie Chapman.
Additionally, a demonstration of calligraphy will be presented by visiting Chinese students attending the SKCTC Middlesboro campus.
