Special to the Enterprise
November 16, 2013
The National Mine Rescue Day was observed on Oct. 30. Lone Mountain Processing appreciates their Mine Rescue Team for an outstanding job in 2013.
A well-trained and prepared Mine Rescue Team is important to our Company and to our Industry. The importance of having a well-trained team is overlooked until something happens and they are needed.
The recovery of life is the driving force behind these “heroes in hard hats,” and the reward for their exhausting labors. They are a unique group of men who unselfishly risk their own lives in this mine rescue tradition. They are a unique group of men who sacrifice themselves for the lives of others.
This year’s team competed in several mine rescue contests. They placed third in the Virginia’s Governors Cup out of 16 Virginia teams; third on day two of Harlan County Safety Days with 16 teams competing; second place overall on day two of the Harlan County Safety Days contest; and second place in the Virginia Expo Contest with 11 teams competing.
They were also recognized as the Best Virginia First Aid Team at the National Contest in Columbus, Ohio. First Aid Team members are Jimmy Rouse, Mike Bennett and Mike Sloan.
