PIKEVILLE — A rally in support of the coal industry is being planned for next month, and organizers are bringing some star power to the event.
Jimmy Rose, who shot to fame last year as a result of his third-place finish on the “America’s Got Talent” television show, will give a free concert at the event, schedule for March 8.
In addition to Rose’s appearance, a host of local, state and federal officials will be on hand to speak out against proposed environmental regulations which opponents say would shut down many of the remaining coal-fired power plants around the country.
The event will last from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., in the Pikeville High School auditorium. Rose’s concert is scheduled for 1 p.m. A free lunch will be provided.
Friends of Coal is sponsoring the event.
