Harlan now has a new Christian radio station, WUIC (With You in Christ) 102.5 on the FM dial.
A low power, non-profit radio station, WUIC will mainly reach those who live in Harlan County.
“We are playing a variety of Christian genres, such as southern gospel and local Christian artists, but the focus will be contemporary Christian music,” said co-owner Janie Torstrick. “If you like ‘The Message’ on Sirius Radio, then you will like our station.”
Being new to the radio business, owners Janie, vice-president of Torstrick Ministries, said she and her husband, Rick, president of Torstrick Ministries, say they are “learning as they go.”
“Rick felt led to apply for the broadcasting license when he found out they were available for bid from the FCC,” said Janie. “We stepped out in faith, purchased the license and the equipment needed for start up. We hope the music will provide encouragement to our listeners in their Christian walk and lead those who are unsaved to Christ. We want the radio station to minister to people. If it does that — it was money well spent.”
WUIC is located at 2415 West Highway 72 in Harlan, across the road from O’Reilly’s Auto Parts and in the same building as Harlan Two-Way Inc.
Members of Cornerstone Community Church, Janie is also the librarian at Rosspoint Elementary School and coaches the academic team. Rick is a local businessman. The Torstricks have one son, 18-year-old Dakota, who is on the board of directors for Torstrick Ministries.
