LMU-CSON receives 2 HRSA Grants

HARROGATE, Tenn. — Lincoln Memorial University (LMU)’s Caylor School of Nursing (CSON) was recently awarded two grants by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). To date the CSON has received 19 total project year grant awards from HRSA.


The first grant, totaling approximately $648,000 over two years, is an Advanced Education Nursing Traineeship Grant Award to provide tuition support for eligible master of science in nursing degree students. Since 2007 the CSON has been awarded approximately $4.5 million in HRSA grant awards.


The second grant, totaling approximately $25,830, is a Nurse Anesthesia Traineeship Grant Award to benefit students in the CSON’s Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.N.) program in the Nurse Anesthesia Concentration. Dr. Mary Anne Modrcin, dean of the Caylor School of Nursing and the grant program director/principal investigator (PI), authored the grant.


“One of the primary goals of the Caylor School of Nursing is to provide the highest quality advanced practice nurses for the underserved areas of our region,” Modrcin said. “These HRSA grants will help us to continue to provide the highest possible M.S.N. education to our students and enable them to train in facilities within our service area. I appreciate the hard work of the entire Caylor School of Nursing team in these efforts.”


Nursing is the largest undergraduate major at LMU. Enrollment in the CSON has increased exponentially in the last few years as new programs and concentrations have been added. The CSON offers a variety of degree options to meet nurses’ career goals.


The CSON offers the associate of science in nursing (A.S.N.), the bachelor of science in nursing (B.S.N.) , the R.N.-B.S.N. and the M.S.N. The A.S.N. program is offered in Harrogate, Corbin at Baptist Health Corbin, Knoxville at Tennova’s Physicians Regional Medical Center and Blount County, Tenn.


The B.S.N. program is offered at Harrogate and LMU-Cedar Bluff. The R.N.-B.S.N. program is offered at Harrogate, LMU-Cedar Bluff and Corbin.


The M.S.N. in Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) is offered at Harrogate, LMU-Cedar Bluff and the Kingsport Center for Higher Education.


The M.S.N. in Nurse Anesthesia is offered at Harrogate and the M.S.N. in Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is offered at LMU-Cedar Bluff. The M.S.N. in Nurse Anesthesia at Harrogate and the M.S.N. in Family Nurse Practitioner at the Kingsport Center for Higher Education both recently announced 100 percent pass rates on their respective licensing exams for the most recent graduating class.


2014 marks the fortieth year of nursing education at LMU.
