A Holmes Mill man is facing drug charges after allegedly causing a disturbance and dropping a box containing a needle.

James Stephen Shepherd, 26, was arrested on Friday by Loyall City Police Officer Mitch Alford.

According to the citation, police received a complaint stating Shepherd was causing a disturbance on Bailey Loop. The caller stated Shepherd dropped a box containing a needle and other items. Alford located Shepherd and discovered there was an active warrant out on him. Shepherd admitted the box belonged to him. The box contained several baggies containing small amounts of a substance which Shepherd said was methamphetamine. Shepherd also had two needles in his pocket.

Shepherd was charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on full cash bonds totaling $7,500.

In other police activity:

• Kenneth Ward, 28, of Gulston was arrested by Harlan County Sheriff’s Deputy Mark Saylor on an indictment warrant. He was indicted for first-degree trafficking a controlled substance and first-degree persistent felony offender. He was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on an $8,000 full cash bond;

• Brian Brown, 39, of Gulston, was arrested by Harlan County Sheriff’s Deputy Philip Ely on a Graves County indictment warrant for manufacturing methamphetamine. He was also served with additional warrants for failure to appear and contempt of court. He was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on full cash bonds totaling $51,000;

• Edward Reese, 29, of Cumberland, was arrested on Saturday by Saylor on an indictment warrant. He was indicted for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving on a DUI suspended license, failure to maintain required insurance, failure to produce insurance card, no registration receipt, no operators/moped license, obstructed vision and/or windshield and persistent felony offender. He was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $3,500 full cash bond;

• April Peterson, 35, of Loyall, was arrested on Saturday by Ely on an indictment warrant. She was indicted for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving on a DUI suspended license and reckless driving. She was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $3,000 full cash bond;

• Donnie Pace, 29, of Evarts, was arrested on Saturday by Harlan County Sheriff’s Deputy Travis Freeman on a warrant obtained by the Hyden City Police Department. Pace was charged with third-degree burglary and third-degree conspiracy to commit burglary. He was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $10,000 full cash bond.

• Dustin G. Hall, 39, of Putney, was arrested by Harlan City Police Officer George Young on Saturday on an indictment warrant. He was indicted for first-degree possession of a controlled substance and lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center.
