The Harlan Middle School Choir, under the direction of Marilyn Schraeder, held their Spring Awards Concert at the Harlan Baptist Church. Mrs. Clara Atkins-Pope accompanied the choir.


Prior to the awards, solos were presented by Makenna Doss, Lauren Nunez, Laura Smith and her father, Dr. Carl Edwin Smith, Abbi Witt and Breonna Rhymer.


The Choir performed the following selections: “Exultate Deo, Rejoice,” “Imagine a World,” “Go Forth With a Song,” “Colorado Trail,” “Thankful,” “Home” and “Wind Beneath My Wings.”


During the Eighth Grade Recognition, the following girls performed: Brooklyn Collins and Emersyn Noah, Keira Fields, Ashton Gross and Melody Gross. Miss Schraeder played an arrangement of “It Well With My Soul” in memory of Miss Charlotte Nolan.


The eighth-graders sang “I Was Here” and the choir’s final selection was “An Irish Blessing.”


Awards included the following:


Vocal Achievement: Brooklyn Collins, Lauren Nunez and Abbi Witt.


Honor Choir participants: KY-ACDA Children’s Chorus in Bowling Green — Abbi Witt; KY-ACDA SSA Chorus in Bowling Green — Brooklyn Collins.


Certificates were presented to the following for their participation in the SKMA Jr. High All-Festival in London: fifth- and sixth-graders — Kellie Bennett, Makenna Doss, Madison Middleton, Ella Morton, Lauren Nunez, Mika Pasqual, Sarah-Ashley Sellers and Haley Walker; seventh- and eighth-graders — Katie Bargo, Lydia Cassim, Ashton Gross, Melody Gross, Carlie Hatfield and Ashley Overbay.


Instrumental Achievement Certificates were presented to the following girls, who take private lessons in piano or guitar: Brianna Carr, Makenna Doss, Lauren Nunez, Breonna Rhymer and Abbi Witt.


Shining Star Certificates were presented to: Abigail Baker, Brianna Carr, Ai-yana Harriston, Breanna Smith and Laura Smith.


Shining Star Certificates were presented to Alyssa Moses and Breonna Rhymer for selling the most Krispy Kreme doughnuts.


Plaques were presented to the following: Outstanding I Soprano — Melody Gross; Outstanding II Soprano — Ashton Gross; Outstanding Alto — Courtney Asher; Outstanding Fifth-Grader — Abbi Witt; Outstanding Sixth-Grader — Lauren Nunez; Outstanding Seventh-Grader — Kaylee Major; Outstanding Eighth-Grader: — Ashley Overbay; Outstanding Members — Ashton and Melody Gross; and Best All-Around Member — Brooklyn Collins.


Eighth grade members received a charm: Courtney Asher, Katie Bargo, Kaycee Bennett, Lydia Cassim, Brooklyn Collins, Charli-Grace Davis, Savanah Faulkner, Keira Fields, Ashton Gross, Melody Gross, Carlie Hatfield, Amber King, Alyssa Moses, Ashley Overbay and Alonna Thomas.


A 2014 charm was presented to the officers: President — Ashley Overbay; vice-president — Melody Gross; secretary — Brooklyn Collins; treasurer — Ashton Gross; Librarians — Katie Bargo (eighth), Emersyn Noah (seventh); Sarah-Ashley Sellers (sixth); and Ella Morton (fifth).
