The Cumberland Elementary Family Resource & Youth Services Center, Cumberland Elementary 21st CCLC and Cumberland Elementary School sponsored two back to school events for their students.

On Aug. 1 area churches and community partners teamed up for the “Back to School Blowout.” Students were entertained by the Gilliam Chapel Puppets with a Purpose team and music from Club 180’s summer camp program.

Two bicycles were given as door prizes and students received backpacks and school supplies for the new school year.

On Aug. 5 an Open House event was held at the school for kindergarten registration and to allow students, parents and teachers to meet each other. Refreshments were served and the students had their faces painted (Maria Lewis and Marissa Rutherford), Bull’s Eye the Clown (Caleb Terry) made balloon shapes for the students and the students participated in various other activities.

Additionally, the Cumberland Elementary School FRYSC began the new school year by teaching school bus safety to K-4 students.

Jenny Farmer, FRYSC coordinator, visited the classrooms and talked to the children, showed a bus safety video and gave out coloring pages to each one.

FRYSC conducts various health and safety classes throughout the year.
