Commission agrees to purchase sheds for RV park

Mayor Eddie Manning has asked the Evarts Tourist and Convention Commission to help purchase sheds to be used at the city’s south RV Park and a pre-school playground the city plans to construct.
“As you know, the funds we were expecting from the county’s coal severance list shows us pretty far down the list and we probably won’t get it,” said Manning during a meeting commission meeting on Monday. “Some of you have talked to me about tourism purchasing some sheds for the south Evarts RV Park. I would also like to purchase another shed for another project in the city, which will be a pre-school playground for the smaller children to use.”
Manning suggested tourism purchase two sheds for the south Evarts RV Park, at a cost of $1,790, to enhance the park for visitors and help the city in becoming a “Trail Town” community. He also suggested the city purchase another shed at a cost of $895 from the recreation fund. Manning said if this deal is conducted at the same time, the shed dealer will deduct $600 from another new building needed for the fire department.
“The dealer said this will save him money by bringing everything at one time,” said Manning. “This will also save the city money from the discount they will give us for the fire department.”
Manning said the Evarts Fire Department is looking to purchase a new building due to the acquisition of a “newer” tanker truck for the department.
“We’re about 80 percent sure we’re going to get this tanker truck from the state at this point,” said Manning. “The only stipulation is that we have to have somewhere to house the vehicle.”
Manning said the fire department building would be 18 feet by 32 feet.
A motion was made and seconded to purchase the two sheds at a cost of $1,790 and everyone agreed.

*Approved the purchase of six additional Christmas lights for the city with the stipulation that the city also purchase one additional light;
*Approved the purchase of six picnic tables and two double grills for the south Evarts RV Park and four pole garbage cans to be placed throughout the city;
*Reviewed the attendance of tourism members and suggested the replacement of those who have missed three or more consecutive meetings.
