Efforts to qualify as a Kentucky Trail Town continue in Evarts.
At a meeting of the Evarts Tourist and Convention Commission on Monday, plans were discussed to host a “Trail Run” as part of the Trail Town Initiative.
After a meeting with the city’s Trail Town committee next week, a date will be set for the event said tourist commission Clerk Kristi Lamb.
“We’ll be inviting clubs from Kentucky and surrounding states to participate in the ride,” said Lamb. “There will be no charge to participate in the ‘trail run,’ but there will be a fee to ride in the Black Mountain Off Road Adventure Area.”
The Kentucky Trail Town Program is an official tourism development designation available through application to the Office for Adventure Tourism.
“There are many benefits to becoming a Kentucky Trail Town,” said Lamb. “The city will be eligible for marketing funds through the Kentucky Department of Travel and Tourism. Our city will be designated on state maps, visitor guides, Adventure Tourism website and other state tourism marketing materials.”
Lamb added there will also be highway signage designating the city as a Kentucky Trail Town.
“To receive this designation will be a win for the city, as well as the county,” said Lamb. “We’re getting close and working hard to complete everything we need to do to qualify as a Kentucky Trail Town.”
