Air Tight Insulation now open in Harlan

Offering an insulating material that can seal your home from air and moisture intrusion, save on costly utility bills, strengthen your home, and protect your family’s health from dangerous mold, airborne pollutants, and allergens, Air Tight Insulation, now open in Harlan, is ready for your calls.
Owners Shelby Wilson III and CC. Wilson say closed-cell spray foam insulation has benefits that the blown insulation or BATT insulation you may be currently using in your home simply cannot match.
“Spray foam insulation comes in open cell and closed cell types. Depending on the application, one is water proof and one is not,” said Shelby Wilson. “Spray foam insulation can be used in walls, attics, floors, or any new construction of homes or businesses.
“This is a really good insulating product that cuts off air-flow. It eliminates the drafts. Where tradition insulation will let air come in and around it, the spray foam insulation seals it off and no air comes in.”
Wilson said the water proof type of spray foam insulation can be used in basements, block walls or roofs.
“The machine we have will spray a roofing foam for people who have rubber roofs and old metal roofs that are leaking,” said Shelby. “We can come in and spray rubber roofing and it seals the roofs.”
Shelby said thus far they have been going into existing houses and spraying in their attics.
“It eliminates the air flow from going out the top of your house. You lose all your heat in the wintertime out the top of your house. When that happens it actually pulls air from the bottom. When we spray we cut that airflow off at the top and it doesn’t allow as much cold air to come in from the bottom. We can also spray the foam insulation under the house and in the flooring. This is such a more energy efficient application. Nine out of ten people will see an immediate saving on their electric bills. It’s an investment, because you do save money by using this type of insulation.”
Shelby added this type of insulation is new to the Harlan area. He said he and C.C. are trained by the manufacturer of the equipment to do this type of work.
“By using spray foam insulation in your attic, in the summer or wintertime, your attic will stay within 5 degrees of your house,” said Shelby. “Some people in the county have been using this type of insulation, but had to get people from out of town to come in and do it. Now, it’s available right here in Harlan County with Harlan County people doing it for you.”
