Getting ready for this year’s annual Highway 421 and Harlan County Yard Sale event, Preston McLain, one of the organizers of the event, spoke to members of the Evarts Tourist and Convention Commission at a recent meeting.
“The event will take place May 1, 2 and 3 and any road that connects to U.S. 421 is eligible to participate,” said McLain. “Last year’s event was a big success and this year we hope to make it even bigger and better.”
McLain said there will be “miles and miles of yard sale items, crafts and antiques” available for purchase during the event.
“There will be specific places set aside for vendors across the county and any resident can have a yard sale in their yard,” said McLain. “The Bennetts have agreed to let vendors use the old Belks parking lot at the Village Center Mall during the event. You must go online and fill out the necessary paperwork. There will be a small fee. I think Huddle House and the Harlan County Extension Depot are also on board for this year.”
McLain said this event brings visitors and tourists into the county.
“We have signed on to do this event for three years and this is our second year,” said McLain. “We’d like to see all the businesses and residents participate this year.”
