Kentucky State Police Det. Bryan Johnson is investigating a murder in the Scalf community of Knox County that occurred Friday.
KSP Public Affairs Officer Shane Jacobs said Post 10 Harlan received a call at 5:19 a.m. requesting assistance from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office in reference to a man being shot.
Jacobs said a preliminary investigation indicates that two unknown males armed with firearms made forced entry into a residence through the front door identifying themselves as law enforcement.
“A struggle took place between the homeowner and one of the intruders, who then, shot the homeowner. Both intruders left the residence in a maroon four-door Ford F-150 with tinted windows, chrome steps and a chrome front push bar,” Jacobs said.
Jacobs said Donald Mills, 29 of Scalf, was transported to the Knox County Hospital by his wife where he was pronounced dead. Mills’ body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy. At this time, no arrests have been made.
The case remains under investigation Johnson. KSP was assisted at the scene by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
