Police have made an arrest in a burglary that reportedly occurred just after midnight at the Kwik Mart in Loyall on Memorial Day.
Michael Epperson, 26, of Loyall, was arrested by Loyall Police Chief Mike Lunsford on Wednesday.
According to Lunsford, the incident was caught on video.
“Around 12:30 a.m. on Monday, a man dressed in a camouflage jacket, ski mask and wearing gloves used some type of object to shatter the door,” said Lunsford. “They entered the store and took $95 in cash — which was for the opening shift — and a carton of cigarettes.”
Lunsford said police began looking for the suspect shortly after the incident.
“He did quite a bit of damage when he shattered the door,” said Lunsford.
Lunsford said Epperson was arrested at his residence in Loyall.
“I interviewed him, he denied it,” said Lunsford. “But we’ve got video and a picture of him at the scene.”
Lunsford said the arrest was made at approximately 2 p.m.
Epperson was charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief and theft by unlawful taking.
Epperson was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $12,000 full cash bond.
