Recognizing their salutatorian and valedictorians for the 2013-2014 school year, members of the Harlan Independent Board of Education held a small reception and commented on the students’ achievements during a recent special called meeting.
Superintendent C.D. Morton said he was “so proud” of these students who “represent what Harlan Independent Schools hold true so well.”
“I just want to tell all of you and your families how much I appreciate the quality you bring to the school,” said Morton. “I’m always pushing people to do better and be better. I get a lot of positive feedback about our school district. What I know above everything else is it’s not me and it’s not a lot of the other people, but it’s the students walking the halls or in those classrooms that really make us who we are. I genuinely appreciate and value what you bring to the table. I think you are the cream of the crop and I think we’re going to see wonderful things from you in the future.”
Morton went on to say these students will receive scholarships totaling approximately $120,000.
Plaques were presented to salutatorian Kaitlyn Knuckles, valedictorians Xiao-yin Chen, John Slusher and Leah Hollins.
