An alleged incident involving an Evarts man and an 8-year-old girl has resulted in multiple charges including indecent exposure and distribution of obscene matter to a minor.
Jeffery Coker, 46, was arrested by Kentucky State Police Trooper Kenny Sergent on Friday on a warrant obtained by Trooper Rodney Sturgill.
According to the warrant, Coker induced the girl to view obscene material on Sept. 1, 2013. The warrant states Coker exposed his genitals to the girl and asked the victim to expose herself to him.
The warrant additionally states Coker told the victim not to tell her grandmother or her grandmother would shoot him.
Coker was charged with first-degree indecent exposure, distribution of obscene material to minors and unlawful transaction with a minor illegal sex act under 16 years of age.
Coker was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $25,000 full cash bond.
In other police activity:
• Scotty Napier, 25, of Tway, was arrested by Harlan City Police Cpl. Jeff Owens on Monday. According to the complaint, Napier entered the MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) property with the intent to commit a crime. Later the same day, Napier attempted to purchase five cartons of cigarettes with a MSHA credit card. A search of Napier’s property resulted in items identified to belong to MSHA being found in the woods behind Napier’s residence.
The complaint also states over $1,000 of damage was done inside the MSHA building.
Napier was charged with third-degree burglary, fraudulent use of a credit card under $500 and third-degree criminal mischief.
Napier was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $12,000 full cash bond:
• Jeremy Barker, 34, of Cumberland, was arrested by the Cumberland Police Department on charges of first-degree possession of a controlled substance (heroin), second-degree possession of a controlled substance, public intoxication by controlled substance and deliver/manufacture of drug paraphernalia.
Barker was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $7,500 bond secured by 10 percent.
