Heather Posey began working as a Harlan County Extension 4-H program assistant in April.

Her job includes things such as scheduling and monthly meetings with the fourth and fifth grade 4-H clubs in the schools. She also assists with the 4-H Teen Club. She compiles numbers and statistics for the 4-H programs, which serve Harlan County.”

“I love my job. I have always wanted to work with kids,” said Posey, 23 of Putney. “This is a great opportunity for me to do just that. Everything we do at 4-H revolves around kids.”

A James A. Cawood graduate, Posey is also a graduate of the University of Kentucky where she obtained her Bachelors of Science degree in Community and Leadership Development at the College of Agriculture in 2012.

“I was a Robinson Scholar,” said Posey. “I was awarded that scholarship in the eighth grade at Wallins Elementary School. That was such a blessing for me, because I couldn’t have been able to attend UK without it.”

Posey said while in college she was a member of the “Super Crew,” which assisted new freshmen on campus, helping them meet people, plan activities and get used to the college atmosphere.

Now a member of Harvest Worship Center, in Harlan, Posey said she was recently baptized.

“I’m also a new mother. My son Jace is 8 months old,” said Posey. “My finance, Mikey Hensley, and I are planning to be married on Dec. 1.”

Posey’s hobbies include reading, sports and all outdoor activities.

“I’d love to be a coach,” said Posey. “Softball is my favorite sport. I played Rugby in college, but that isn’t big here in Harlan. I played three years and then broke my collar bone which required surgery. I just love being outdoors and being with kids. I’m hoping one day I’ll have the opportunity to volunteer as a coach somewhere in the community.”
