The Harlan County boys tennis team defeated Bell County 6-4 at home on Thursday, while the Lady Cats turned the tables on the Lady Bears, 7-2.
HCHS top seed Caleb Bailey defeated Bell’s Devon Moyers 8-1, while teammate Joey Eldridge took out Cody Ferguson by the same score. Nathan Halcomb of the Black Bears was victorious over Corey Swanner 8-4, and Ethan Hughes won 8-6 over Dalton Callebs.
In doubles action, Bailey and Eldridge defeated Swanner and Tyler Potter 8-6, and Hughes and Chris Cornett won 6-4 over Hunter Collett and Marshall Hunley.
Hannah Huff, the top seed for the Lady Bears, came away with a victory over Leslie Saylor 8-4, and Huff and her doubles partner, Tiffany Akers, won their match 8-5 over Saylor and Kendra Jarvis.
“I’m proud of both of our teams,” said HCHS coach Wes Bailey. “We had some great individual performances, and our doubles teams are doing well, too.”
The Bears play at Clay County on Friday and meet county rival Harlan on Monday.
