Blogging started in the 1990s, so it has been around for a while, but the popularity of it is picking up speed. The first blog I ever started following was Earl Hamner’s Between You, Me, and the Lamp Post. It was interesting to see what new adventures were/are going on in Mr. Hamner’s life. He is an amazing man, and one of my heroes.

I started hearing more about blogs and wanted to find out about the whole process. Blogs are just pages on the Internet where a person talks about things that interest them. A blog might be devoted to quotes from famous people, photography, make-up, decorating ideas, poetry, cars or anything else a person can dream up.

I started my own blog in January of this year – Queen of Ordinary. It is a place where I can combine photography, inspirational thoughts, scripture, and my own thoughts on any number of ordinary subjects. I decided to write it for one year on a daily basis (or as close to that as possible) and chronicle what Extraordinary God would do in the life of one ordinary woman (me), in the course of one year.

The Bible says that God uses the foolish things of this world to confound the wise. That definitely qualifies me… as a foolish thing. If any good thing happens to me or comes through me, it is because of God working through me as I try to become an empty vessel He can use.

Perhaps you remember the story of Balaam’s donkey (otherwise called in the Bible an ass). When the prophet refused to listen to the word of the Lord, the donkey refused to take him where the Lord was warning him not to go. When the prophet struck the donkey, the poor creature spoke to him. Out of the donkey’s (otherwise known as an ass) words spoke truth, the prophet realized it was the word of God in that moment.

Sometimes if we want to be used of God in this world, we just need to be like Balaam’s donkey (ass). One of my friends coined the phrase that sometimes we have BAMs and don’t even know it. Those are the moments when God speaks through us, no matter that we are poor, dumb creatures. Thus we have Balaam’s Ass Moments or BAMs.

If a donkey in the right place and the right time can be used of God in an important situation to deliver a message from God, then I dare say that any one of us can qualify to be used of God. This revelation of God’s purpose not being based on our worthiness gave me the courage to start a blog and believe that God would do something awesome in my life this year.

My blog, Queen of Ordinary, can be found on the Internet through Word Press, and on a Facebook connection. So far I have written over 140 entries that include a photograph and an inspirational thought for each one. My little blog is pretty primitive. Anyone with a computer who knows how to type can start a blog page of their own on Word Press and it is free.

Everyone is good at something. Blogging is a great opportunity to share knowledge, instructions, photographs, poetry, etc. Some people only write on their blog once a week, and some once a month or longer. For me, having made the commitment to do this blog this year has taught me to be disciplined and forces me to write something almost every day.
