Vampires and werewolves have quickly become commonplace in young adult literature. However, not all of these fantastical books have a character whose life is based out of the Appalachian mountains.

Author Niki “N.D.” Cinniamon has put her life, friendships and imagination into her first published book “Darkness Begins.”

Cinniamon grew up in Tazewell, Tenn., and completed her diesel mechanic certification at Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College.

The story is based in a small town in the south that has a nightlife full of fantasy creatures.

Cinniamon has been pursuing her dreams of writing books and poetry since she was in high school. With the first publication, she plans to have book signings around the area.

“When I was in high school, I started writing books. Now that I’ve gotten more into it, I know this is what I want to do with the rest of my life. It’s a good feeling to know that,” said Cinniamon.

She has just completed writing her fourth book of the series and has plans to publish the second book soon.

“I don’t expect to make a lot of money, but I want to be able to do something I love. How many people get to say that?” said Cinniamon.

The book is available through online bookstores such as Amazon, but Cinniamon has hopes the book will be sold in bookstores.
