The Harlan Musettes, under the direction of Marilyn Schraeder, and accompanied by Clara Pope, held their Spring Awards Concert at Harlan Baptist Church.
The following awards were presented for Vocal Achievement: Leanna Asher, Angel Brooks, Dominique Dupar, Bethany James, Kaitlyn Knuckles, Kaylee McNiel and Alyssa Mills.
Sectional Vocal Achievement awards were presented to: Jourdan Ledford, I Soprano; Leah Hollins, II Soprano; Kaylee McNiel, I Alto; and Alaina Mavinidis, II Alto.
Honor Choir awards included:
SKMA All-Festival Chorus — Leanna Asher, Angel Brooks, Dominique Dupar, Bethany James, Kaitlyn Knuckles, Kaylee McNiel and Alyssa Mills.
University of Louisville Honors Choir — Leanna Asher, Dominique Dupar, Bethany James and Kaitlyn Knuckles.
Instrumental recognition for band members: Leah Hollins.
Recognition of those taking private lessons in piano, violin or guitar: Emily Cassim, Corinna Higgins and Alaina Mavinidis.
Certificates for excelling in athletics were received by: Freshman — Bethany Day; Sophomore — Katie King; Junior — Laura Pace; senior — Jourdan Ledford.
The Bonnie Gray Award was presented to Jourdan Ledford.
The Jill Leoblein Award was presented to Alyssa Mills.
Academic Awards were given to those who had a 3.5 or higher grade point average: Freshmen — Shianne Burgan, Tricia Clem, Bethany Day, Tiffany Hampton and Lauren Shoemaker; sophomores — Leanna Asher, Katie King, Lauren McCurry and Elyssa Slusher; Juniors — Emily Cassim, Megan Helton, Madison Noe, Laura Pace and Samantha Spurlock; seniors — Carissa Arwood, Kaitlyn Bledsoe, Camille Browning, Leah Hollins, Bethany James, Kaitlyn Knuckles, Jourdan Ledford, Kaylee McNiel, Alyssa Mills and Katelyn Noah.
Leah Hollins received a cash award of $50 for being this year’s valedictorian, and Kaitlyn Knuckles received $25 for being the salutatorian.
The choir performed the following selections: “Come to the Music,” “Weep No More,” “Songs from a Disney
Princess,” “Safe and Sound,” “You Raise Me Up,” “Banjo Pickin’ Girl,” and “Just the Way You Are/Just a Dream.”
Instrumentalists on “Banjo Pickin’ Girl” were Mike Kelly, banjo; Terri Kelly, string bass; Tip McNiel, quiro; and Greg Hollins, rhythm bones.
The seniors and underclass officers, Leanna Asher, Laura Pace and Samantha Spurlock, sang “Just the Way You Are.”
“The Alma Mater” was performed followed by senior recognition.
Seniors are: Carissa Arwood, Melissa Arwood, Kaitlyn Bledsoe, Angel Brooks, Camille Browning, Taylor Cochran, Jessica Cottrell, Dominique Dupar, Corinna Higgins, Leah Hollins, Caitlyn Hornsby, Bethany James, Kirstie Keith, Kaitlyn Knuckles, Jourdan Ledford, Alaina Mavinidis, Kaylee McNiel, Alyssa Mills, Katelyn Noah and Olivia Pace.
Senior vocal solos were presented by Carissa Arwood, Melissa Arwood, Dominique Dupar, Corinna Higgins, Leah Hollins with her father playing the ukelele, Bethany James with Dylan Saylor playing the guitar and Katelyn Noah.
Alaina Mavinidis played a piano solo.
After the solos were performed, the seniors sang “”Wherever I Go.”
The program concluded with parents of the seniors joining them on stage for the closing song, “I Believe.”

Plaques were presented to the Outstanding Member, Leah Hollins, and the Best All-Around Member, Jourdan Ledford.
The Outstanding New Member award was presented to Tricia Clem, and Best All-Around New Member, Camille Browning. Leah Hollins received the Christy Owens Award.
Officers for the 2014-15 school year were announced. They include: President, Samantha Spurlock; vice-presiden, Laura Pace, secretary, Lauren McCurry; treasurer, Emily Cassim; pictorial manager, Megan Helton; librarian, Amber Fee; and Historian, Tricia Clem. Section Leaders: I Soprano, Leanna Asher; II Soprano, Madison Noe; I Alto, Elyssa Slusher; and II Alto, Katie King.
