Take in the sunshine, enjoy the beautiful old downtown districts of small towns and the rolling countryside as you travel from the Ohio River to the Blue Ridge Mountains shopping at The 2014 U.S. 25 Yard Sale, an event growing in both in length and popularity.
The “Frugal Living” Website, rating “The Longest Yard Sales in the U.S.,” has listed this year’s event as the nation’s sixth longest — in only its third year, according to Carl Nichols, director of Claiborne County Tourism.
The 2014 event, to be held June 5-7, will stretch from Covington, Ky., through Tennessee, to Woodfin, N.C., along both U.S. 25 and U.S. 25W. A short section of U.S. 25E in Claiborne County from Cumberland Gap thru Harrogate to Tazewell will be included, via Tennessee Hwy. 63. Folks along Hwy. 63 from Lafollette to Harrogate are encouraged to participate as well.
Almost every city, village and town along the 425-mile route participates. It’s an opportunity for non-profits, church groups, school groups and more to set up and make money!
Oddities, antiques, movie and theater set items and other bargains can be found by shoppers at hundreds of set-up sites along the road and just off the highway.
To participate, check with Nichols at 865-585-7386 for local regulations and possible set-up spots. You can also visit “U.S. 25 Yard Sale” on Facebook for more information.
