If you host it, they will come. Cumberland Gap’s second Saturday in the month event for September is expected to have many pulling out their poodle skirts, rolling a pack of cigarettes into a sleeve and donning their oxfords to commemorate a music legend.
Event coordinators appear to be hedging their bets on enough Elvis Presley fans to make the Elvis/50s Cruise-In Night a hit.
Fifties-themed music, dancing, classic automobiles and enough Elvis look-alikes to satisfy any diehard fan are expected to make the event, slated for Sept. 13, a real cat’s meow.
The late internationally-known rock star and actor Elvis Presley passed away during the early morning hours of Aug. 16, 1977. His passing did little, however, to quench the thirst for that early rock beat that became the hallmark for much of Elvis’ extensive musical library.
That beat will combine with the vroom of muscle cars and exhaust to insure plenty of happy memories.
Coordinators ask that attendees dress either as Elvis or in the 1950s style of clothing.
