A Free Wellness Clinic will be held Friday and Saturday at Harlan County High School hosted by employees of The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.
An annual event for Harlan County, Rev. Rodney Myers, chaplain at The Christ Hospital, said Friday’s clinic will be held from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Saturday’s clinic will be from 10:30 a.m. until 6 p.m.
During the clinic, residents will receive free physicals, eye glasses, podiatrist exams, dental exams and work, medical equipment, inhalers, sugar and diabetes checks and hygiene awareness.
Also available for children and adults will be: clothing, shoes, personal and oral hygiene products, nutritious meals for winter and free haircuts.
“We will be giving away 500 backpacks on Saturday beginning at 3 p.m. Children must be present to receive a backpack,” said Myers. “We’ll also have a heart doctor available on Saturday.”
To make your visit enjoyable everyone will be treated to free snow cones, popcorn, inflatable slide, kids’ games and prizes along with hamburgers and hot dogs.
“We’ll have some good bluegrass/gospel music by Emmitt Campbell, of Hazard, for both days of the event,” said Myers. “We’ve been coming down to Harlan County for the past 16 years and we consider everyone family. We’ll continue to come this way as long as the Lord blesses us to do so.”
Myers said the goal of all the employees at The Christ Hospital is “to reach out one hand to one hand and change a life.”
“This is what it’s all about,” said Myers. “For me, personally, it’s just a smile, but we get so much more. I’m just happy the Lord has chosen me to be a part of the life in Harlan County and to share my ministry with them. It’s just a beautiful time for all of us. We hope everyone will make plans to attend the two-day event.”
