Harlan tourism reports on social media research

During a recent meeting of the Harlan Tourist and Convention Commission, Director Brandon Pennington presented numbers on their social media research.
Pennington reported during the month of February, Harlan tourism had 6,688 evening visitors, which he said “was good for February.” In comparison, he said during the month of September there were approximately 11,000 visitors.
“We had 22,916 page views and our bounce rate was down from the previous month,” said Pennington. “This month the bounce rate was 51.47 percent. With social media reach we are now over 3,000 likes on our Facebook and our total reach for last month was about 35,000, which did include some paid advertisement for the Harlan County 5K Run with Color and the Sunday Best concert.”
In other commission action:
*Pennington reported he participated in sport and boat shows in Cincinnati, Ohio and Lexington giving away thousands of brochures advertising tourism in the county, motorcycle back roads in the county, the upcoming 421 Yard Sale and county festivals to those attending;
*Reported $780 in ticket sales has been received for the upcoming Sunday Best concert set for Feb. 28 at 8 p.m. at the Harlan Center. Tickets are still available;
*Noted Appalachian ChalleNGe Academy may team up with Harlan tourism in their upcoming Grow Appalachia Program. Approval was previously given to have a community garden in the lower grassy green spot in the lower lot of the Harlan Center. Prep work will not begin until after the Poke Sallet Festival has ended.
