The Harlan County Outdoor Recreation Authority discussed a variety of issues during a meeting on Wednesday.

Board member Mike King suggested holding a Spartan or “Tough Mudder” type foot race on Labor Day Weekend.

According to Wikipedia, a Spartan Race is a series of obstacle races of varying distance and difficulty ranging from one mile to marathon distances.

The panel nominated King to look into the details of holding that type of event.

The board also discussed some issues with the zip line.

Board member Ken Crider mentioned insurance has been secured for the zip line through Mutual of Omaha.

Board chairman Dallas Gilbert stated future advertisements should specify that the Black Mountain Thunder Zip Line is not a “canopy” tour.

“We don’t have a canopy tour, we’re above the canopy,” said Gilbert. “We want them to know that they’re going to be going through there at a high rate of speed in the air.”

After some discussion, the board moved on without taking any action.

In other activity, the board discussed changes to camera equipment designed to offer zip line patrons photos of their visit. Also, the status of the Black Mountain Outdoor Adventure Area website was discussed.
