Hundreds of books were given away on Thursday during the Harlan County Homemakers Book Club event. Jacob Chavez, of Harlan, is pictured making a selection.


Lydia Dykes-Kent, of Evarts, is pictured looking over a large selection of books given away by the Harlan County Homemakers Book Club on Thursday. She said as an avid reader, she looks forward to the event each year.

The first 300 participating in the Harlan County Homemakers Book Club book giveaway event were given free tote bags. Pictured is Margaret Bowman, right, of Baxter, and President Thelma Haley, looking a particular book selection.


During the book giveaway event, everyone was treated to coffee and cake. Approximately 100 attended the event and received as many free books as they could carry.


Trying to make a selection, Heather Kirkland, of Harlan, is seen in the mystery book selections. Kirkland is a student at Harlan High School and the daughter of Steve and Heather Kirkland.
