Musette initiation held, officers inducted

The Harlan Musettes initiation ceremony was held Sept. 7 at the Harlan Baptist Church. The choir initiated 17 new members and inducted officers for the 2013-14 year.
Musical selections were presented by the initiates. They sang “Once Upon a Time” and “The Musette Story,” which was sung to the tune of the Brady Bunch theme. “It’s Story Time” was the theme for initiation. New members received a silk yellow rosebud and a “little sister” charm from their big sister. In return, the “big sister” received a “big sister” charm.
New members are: Morgan Bargo, Camille Browning, Lanie Browning, Shianne Burgan, Talia Burgan, Tricia Clem, Jesse Cochran, Makayla Cotton, Bethany Day, Tiffany Hampton, Jasmine Honeycutt, Mckayla Jewel, Mackenzie Lankford, Lauren McCurry, Lauren Shoemaker, Shawna Smith and Savannah Szemak.
New officers inducted were Leah Hollins, president; Jourdan Ledford, vice-president; Laura Pace, secretary; Kaylee McNiel and Alyssa Mills, co-treasurers; Katelyn Noah, I Soprano section leader; Bethany James, II Soprano section leader; Kaitlyn Bledsoe, I Alto section leader; Alaina Mavinidia, II Alto section leader; Kirstie Keith, pictorial manager; Samantha Spurlock, librarian; and Leanna Asher, historian.
Barbra Ledford read the 2012-13 vice-president’s note from Samantha Henson, and presented the book to her daughter, Jourdan. Laurie Hollins read the 2012-13 president’s note from Lauren Hoague, and presented the book to her daughter, Leah.
The officers sang “Never Alone” before forming the traditional candlelit circle. They sang “Candle on the Water” and “May the Light of Christ.” Guests were family members of the initiates and officers, and charter Musette member, Charlotte Nolan. The Musette director is Marilyn Schraeder, and the assistant director/accompanist is Clara Atkins-Pope.
