Breast cancer awareness addressed
The Cumberland Elementary Family Resource and Youth Service and James A. Cawood Elementary School Family Resource and Youth Service Center sponsored a “Breast Cancer Awareness” program on Oct. 9. Dr. Shane McDougal, Chris Lewis and a team from Quantum Health Care in Cumberland spoke to those attending about the importance of yearly checkups. They provided many statistics and information. Models of breasts containing lumps or tumors were given out to show attendees how to properly check for and find lumps. The Harlan County Extension Service was on hand to provide skin cancer screenings with the Dermascan machine. Refreshments were served afterward and door prizes given out. Each person attending received a bag containing free information and goodies. Over 45 people attended this annual event.
