Erica Gilliam, a student at Harlan County High School, was the first-place winner of the essay contest held in conjunction with the Kingdom Come Swappin’ Meetin’ Olympics competition. She received a cash prize of $50.


Additionally, Harlan County High School won the most participation trophy for involvement in the festival.


Several Harlan County students were also among the best of the best in several competitions at the recent Swappin’ Meetin’.

High School Tandem: First place, Maria Lewis and Marissa Rutherford; High School Individual: First place: Sierra Hatfield; second place: Logan Burris; Honorable Mention: Cody Fultz, Shaylan Clark (all of the students listed are eligible for state competition).

Flowers category: First place, Alli Howard, and third place, Cole Caudill; People category: First place, Jessica Hall; Scenery category: Second place, Candice Huff; Black and White category: third place, Sarah Dodson; Harlan County category: third place, Sarah Dixon.


ART


Best of Show: Cassidy Wright (Mountain Scene); first place: Jordan Hackworth (Twisted Tree); second place: Raygen Coker (Off the Fight); third place: Nathan Donahue (Piece of Fall).
