Brandon Pennington of the Harlan Tourist and Convention Commission was awarded the Rookie of the Year Award of the Kentucky Travel Industry Association during the Opening Breakfast of the Kentucky Travel Industry Annual Conference on Nov. 7 at the Seelbach Hilton Hotel.
Pennington is a huge supporter of KTIA and attends almost every KTIA event in order to become better informed on all aspects of tourism. He has completed the Basic Certification for the Kentucky Tourism Institute and is currently earning his Advanced Certification.
“Brandon exemplifies everything you look for in an KTIA Rookie of the Year,” said KTIA Chair of the Board Sherry Murphy, of Elizabethtown. “He has an outgoing personality and continuously searches for ways to increase tourism in his community.”
Pennington is known statewide for his extraordinary work ethic and his knowledge and respect for the importance of hospitality. Pennington’s enthusiasm is infectious. There is no doubt he has fallen in love with his job and this industry – as well as KTIA. This award is a celebration of his accomplishments and hard work since joining KTIA.
Each year members of the Association nominate other KTIA members who have distinguished themselves in service within the Association for this award. An anonymous committee selects a winner based on several different criteria including, but not limited to, involvement in the association, involvement in committees, recruitment of new members, involvement in the Kentucky Tourism Institute and other Association programs.
