Lady Dragons sweep district contest

Harlan completed a season sweep of 52nd District foe Middlesboro on Tuesday. The Lady Dragons downed the visiting Lady Jackets 25-14, 25-2 in an impressive outing.
Harlan turned in arguably its best performance of the season in the second game. The Lady Dragons scored the first 20 points to cruise to the win. Paige Woodsby was at service for each of the 20 points. The sophomore had five aces during her time at serve to power HHS to the hot start.
“When Paige is on she is one of our best servers. We like to get her out there first and let her get us as many points as she can,” said Harlan coach Tara Posey.
Dominque Dupar was solid at the net for the Lady Dragons. Dupar had several tips and spikes in the two contests.
“Doninique is our senior. She leads us on the floor,” Posey said. It is her job to work the net and get as many tips and spikes as she can get.”
Middlesboro hung close early in the first set.
The game was tied at four when a Harlan serve was long. The Lady Jackets trailed by just one when Rebecca Posey delivered a service point to give Harlan an 8-6 lead. Shae Moyers responded with a service point, but a tip attempt was short on the following point and the Lady Dragons maintained a two-point lead.
Harlan led 14-9 midway through the contest, but a serve into the net and no return allowed the Lady Jackets to close to within three points. Shanae Thomas took over from that point. With Thomas at serve, the Lady Dragons reeled off five straight points to take control of the match. Jesse Cochran scored on a service point down the stretch as the Lady Dragons pulled away for the win.
Harlan (3-8 overall, 2-1 district) returns to action today at Bell County in another 52nd District contest. Middlesboro (4-6 overall, 0-3 district) will travel to Whitley County.
“Hopefully, this can give us some momentum on Thursday and we can get a win against Bell County,” Posey said.
