Bears run in Wayne County

The Harlan County cross country teams competed in the Wayne County on Saturday.

The Lady Bears placed fifth in the meet, while the boys squad came in sixth.

Kaitlyn Stittums was the first Lady Bear, placing seventh and running a career best 22:38. Allison Cornett came in with a 24:38 for 26th place. Katie Graham placed 35th and Samantha Howard was 41st. Amy Clark, Madison Blanton and Sidney Kelly rounded out the field for HCHS.

Steven Engle was the first in for HCHS with a 19:16 for 19th place. Caleb Bailey was the second Black Bear in with a 19:36 for 28th place. Alex Lewis was 47th. Noah Hughes placed 53rd. Kyle Middleton rounded out the field for the Bears in 58th.

Madison Central captured both the girls and boys team titles.

HCHS hosts cross country meets

Harlan County High School will host a pair of cross country meets in the upcoming week.

The Black Bears will entertain schools in the Southeastern Kentucky Conference Championship today at 5:30 p.m.

Harlan County High School will also serve as the site for the annual Chuck Vitatoe Classic on Saturday. The meet will begin at 10 a.m.


Swappin’ Meetin’ Glow Run is Friday
As part of the 49th Kingdom Come Swappin’ Meetin,’ the Glow Run 5-K and a 1-mile walk is set for Friday. The event will begin at 7 p.m. on the Cumberland campus of Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College and wind its way across the campus and the town.
