Jourdan & Jordan power Lady Dragons past Middlesboro
Another big night from the Jourdan & Jordan backcourt tandem helped the Harlan Lady Dragons pull away in the second quarter for a 53-41 victory over the visiting Lady Jackets.
Senior Jourdan Ledford scored 15 and freshman Jordan Brock added 13 to lead the Lady Dragons, who improved to 17-10 overall and 3-3 in district action.
Middlesboro, which fell to 8-14 overall and 0-6 in the district, had only three players reach the scoring column, led by star eighth grader Blair Green with 16 points. Bailey Hensley and Lauren Spurlock added 15 and 10 points, respectively.
Brock had seven points in the first quarter and Masie Charles added six as the Lady Dragons built a 14-10 lead. Hensley scored four in the period to lead Middlesboro.
Ledford came alive in the second quarter, after being held scoreless in the first, with six points as Harlan stretched its advantage to 24-18.
The Lady Dragons outscored Middlesboro 10-7 in the third quarter to push its lead to 19. Middlesboro battled back in the fourth behind six points from Hensley and five each from Green and Spurlock to win the period 16-9.
Harlan will close its regular season schedule on Feb. 21 at Corbin as part of a girls/boys doubleheader. The Lady Dragons’ game scheduled on Feb. 22 at Somerset was canceled.
Harlan won a high-scoring junior varsity game 52-40, led by 17 points from freshman forward Leah Evans and 11 from freshman guard Callie Wilson, to close its season with a 5-6 record. Mackenzie King added nine for the Lady Dragons, foliowed by Katie King with five, Shanae Thomas with four and Madelynn Henson, Bethany Day and Katelyn Burkhart with two each.
Jamaya Poe poured in 28 for the Lady Jackets. Jackie Biscardi tossed in five. Baylee Woody, Mallory Carter and Hannah Crawford scored two each. Abby Harris added one.

Coming off back-to-back games against crosstown rival Harlan County, the Harlan Lady Dragons came out flat offensively on Friday at Williamsburg.
Fortunately for the Lady Dragons, they were more than good enough defensively to overcome their shooting woes.
The Harlan starters, playing in the first and third quarters, limited Williamsburg to only five points while they were in the game and rolled to a 43-24 win.
Freshman guard Jordan Brock scored 11 points to lead the 16-10 Lady Dragons. Jourdan Ledford and Masie Charles added nine and eight points, respectively.
Williamsburg (3-17) was led by Kacie Brown with seven points.
Shanae Thomas and Madelynn Henson each scored seven points and Katie King and Mackenzie King added six each as Harlan won 34-18 in the junior varsity game. Callie Wilson tossed in four. Leah Evans and Katelyn Burkhart scored two each.
