During a 2013-14 campaign when three 52nd District teams were ranked among the top six in the 13th Region for the entire season, it’s no surprise that 52nd District players dominated the 13th Region Girls Basketball Coaches Association All-Region Team selected by region coaches, filling six of 11 slots on the first team.

Junior all-state guard Maci Morris, the frontrunner for Miss Basketball in 2015, was the choice as player of the year. David Teague was selected as coach of the year after leading the Lady Cats to a 25-5 record and a second straight 52nd District Tournament championship. The Lady Cats fell to eventual champ Corbin in the regional semifinals.

Harlan, which finished 20-13 and was the runner-up in both the 13th Region and 52nd District, placed two on the all-region first team, including the region’s top freshman, point guard Jordan Brock, and the Lady Dragons’ only senior, Jourdan Ledford, a five-year starter. Freshman center Emma Bianch was named to the third team.

Harlan County posted a 20-8 mark this season and was represented by standout sophomore guard Brooklyn Massingill, the first member of the program’s 1,000-point club. Senior guard Kaitlyn Stittums was named to the second team, and junior guard Bella Noe and senior center Shannon Shackleford were members of the third team.

Bell County was also represented by senior guard Morgan Garnett on the first team, junior guard Jessica Sanders on the second team and sophomores Katrina Johnson and Kelli Smith on the third team.
