Harlan County coach Tim McElyea warned his Lady Bears after a win earlier this week over Bell County that they would face an angry Cumberland Gap, Tenn., team with something to prove Thursday after suffering an 8-0 loss earlier in the season at the HCHS field.

The Lady Bears apparently didn’t get the message. Cumberland Gap capitalized on five Harlan County errors to win 5-3 in the rematch.

Farren Clark led the Harlan County offense with a triple, double and single. Kaitlyn Stittums, Jessie Johnson and Tia King each added two singles. Savannah Sergent added a triple. Chyanna Harris contributed a single.

Destinee Jenkins suffered the loss for the Lady Bears, giving up five runs on three hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.

The Lady Bears scored twice in the second inning as King came in on a walk to Mallory Johnson. Harris came home on a hit by single.

Clark scored in the seventh inning on a triple by Sergent.

Harlan County (7-4) plays at Harlan on Saturday.
