Lady Skins knock off Clay, Middlesboro
The Cumberland Lady Skins extended their winning streak to six with wins at Clay County on Friday and over Middlesboro on Saturday at home.
Clay County had been undefeated and had only allowed five runs this season prior to Cumberlands 8-3 victory over the Lady Tigers. Kacie Russell had another strong performance on the mound, going six innings and allowing three runs on four hits with one strikeout and two walks.
The Lady Skins’ defense played its best game of the season with several outstanding plays while committing only one error.
Cumberland’s 12-hit attack was led by Grayson Raleigh with three singles. Lainey Cox and Regan Caudill tripled and singled. Mikaylyn Foutch had 2 singles. Autumn Dunaway doubled. Russell and Nikki Creech each singled.

The Lady Skins also avenged one of their two losses on the season by defeating Middlesboro 5-2.
Russell went the distance again for the Lady Skins’ for her 12th win of the year. She gave up five hits while striking out one and walking three. The Lady Skins’ defense was again stellar making several plays that took away hits or runs from the Lady Jackets.
The Lady Skins had eight hits led by Dunaway with two singles. Creech and Raleigh each added a double. Russell, Taylor Johnson, Shawnee Cress and Foutch all singled.

Lady Dragons coast past Knox, Letcher
The Harlan offense exploded in a pair of recent middle school softball victories.
The Lady Dragons collected 11 hits in a 13-3 four-inning win over Knox Central on April 8. Ann Marie Bianchi had a double and single while Ashley Overbay, Katelyn Burkhart and Payton Bennett contributed two singles each. Brooklyn Collins, Tori Hill and Jayda Young each contributed one single.
Overbay struck out seven and walked three as she allowed one hit in three innings. Bennett struck out one and walked three in one inning.
Harlan scored eight runs in the second inning and 11 in the fourth in a 25-5 rout of Letcher Central on Monday. Bennett and Burkhart each had two singles for the Lady Dragons. Emersyn Noah, Young, Hill, Haven Saylor, Overbay and Bianchi added one single each.
Overbay struck out six and walked one in two innings. Bennett had three strikeouts and six walks in two innings.
Harlan returns to action Friday at Cumberland.
Basketball clinic planned at HCHS
The Harlan County High School boys basketball team will host a basketball clinic on April 30 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the school. Boys ages 3-12 may attend. The cost is $15.
All participants will perform drills learned at the clinic at a Harlan County boys basketball game during halftime. Call the school at 574-2020 for more information.
