Harlan County opened its season on the road at Jenkins on Monday and left with a 25-16, 25-23 loss.
Brittany Clem and Selena Hatmaker led Harlan County in the opening set with four and three points, respectively. Katelyn Reynolds and Candice Huff had one point each.
Charleigh Mefford led HCHS in the second set with three points. Hatmaker, Huff and Shelby Cowan added two points each. Reynolds contributed one point.
Jenkins won 21-14, 21-13 in the freshman game. Haley Blakley led HCHS in the first set with four points and an ace. Elyse Turner had three points. Sophia Sergent had three points and Blakley added two points and an ace in the second set.
Harlan County fell 21-6, 21-6 in junior varsity action. Blakley, Turner and Natalie Middleton had one service point each in the first match. Maryan Caldwell, Turner, Chelsey Caldwell and Chelsey Noe had one point each in the second set.
Harlan County fell to Whitley County 25-5, 25-13 and 25-6 in the Lady Bears’ home opener on Tuesday.

Clem led HCHS in the third set with three points. Valaree Day and Reynolds had one point each. Natalie Middleton added a spike.
Harlan County fell 21-18, 12-21, 21-16 in junior varsity action.
Day and Miranda Cook each had two points in the first set. Reynolds added one point.
Middleton and Reynolds each had two points in the second set.
Middleton led Harlan County in the third set with four points. Day and Elyse Turner contributed two points each. Reynolds and Kierstan Hall each had one point.
Harlan County (0-2) plays at Corbin on Thursday.
Harlan fell to 0-2 on the season with a 19-25, 8-25 loss to visiting Leslie County on Tuesday.
Jesse Cochran and Becky Posey each had three service points to lead the Lady Dragons, including three kills by Cochran. Tarolynn Burkhart also had three kills. Shanae Thomas added two service points. Hannah Vaughn had a point and a kill. Dani Miller added one point.
Leslie County won 21-13, 21-8 in the junior varsity game. Jasmine Honeycutt, Bethany Day and Lanie Browning had two points each to lead the Lady Dragons. Miller and Callie Wilson added one point each.
The Lady Eagles won 21-14, 21-12 in the freshman game. Alyssa Moses had three service points for Harlan. Madison Middleton added two points. Katelyn Fox contributed one point.
Harlan plays host to Barbourville on Thursday.
