Tara Posey had a plan when she set up a tough schedule for the Harlan Lady Dragons in the season’s opening two weeks. She wanted to get her team ready for the 13th Region All “A” Classic on Aug. 30.

The Lady Dragons struggled against the quality competition as Posey suspected. Harlan fell in two sets to Clay County and Jenkins once each and to Leslie County twice. Harlan managed a two-set sweep of Barbourville but still took a 1-4 record into the 13th Region All “A” Classic on Saturday in Barbourville.

Harlan drew from that experience against quality competition as Posey had hoped and left Barbourville with a regional All “A” Classic title and a berth in the state tournament.

The Lady Dragons defeated Oneida Baptist 26-24, 25-22 in the semifinals. Lynn Camp advanced to the finals with a 26-24, 25-8 win over Middlesboro. Oneida Baptist had opened the tournament with a 26-24, 25-16 win over Middlesboro.

Harlan claimed a three-set win over Lynn Camp in the finals, falling 19-25 in the first set before rebounding to win 26-24 and 25-18.

No individual scoring information on the tournament was submitted.
