Annotations and corrections to the article, "Doughboy Statues are a National Treasure" (11/18/2009?) http://harlandaily.com/bookmark/4515249, concerning the "Spirit of the American Doughboy" statue by E.M. Viquesney that stands in front of the Harlan County Courthouse, specifically the list of copies of the same statue that stand in various places across the country.

The list as published in the original Enterprise article has at least:

1 instance of locations being assigned to wrong state.

2 states that don't have a Viquesney Doughboy.

7 states omitted that have at least one Viquesney Doughboy.

41 city locations omitted which have a Viquesney Doughboy.

13 location misspellings.

37 locations where Viquesney's Doughboy doesn't exist.

Here's the way it should've looked:

Alabama — Anniston (Bessemer and Birmingham were omitted)

Arizona — Kingsman (the correct spelling is Kingman)

Arkansas — Helena, Fort Smith and Eureka Springs (Eureka Springs isn't an EMV "Spirit")

California — Chula Vista (no EMV Doughboy here or anywhere in CA)

Colorado — Manitou Springs Park (it's John Paulding's "Over the Top" - however, there is a true EMV Doughboy in nearby Colorado Springs)

Connecticut — Bethel and Cannan (correct spelling is [North] Canaan)

Florida — Clearwater, Palatka (a 1998 bronze reproduction was installed at Sarasota)

Georgia — Americus, Griffin, Madison, Waycross, Nashville and Trion

State of Idaho omitted; there's an EMV Doughboy at Payette.

Illinois — Herrin, Alton, Chicago, Columbia, Brighton and Naperville (none at Brighton; there was once another in Chicago's Lincoln Park)

Indiana — Spencer, Greencastle, Rockville, New Castle, Peru, Attica, Hobart, Fort Wayne, Evansville, Hartford City and Winchester (Rockville isn't EMV "Spirit"; Muncie was omitted)

Iowa — Mason City, Mechanicsville

Kansas — Parsons, Axtell, Oakley

Kentucky — Jamestown, Harlan, Monticello, Elizabethtown, Springfield, Morehead, Liberty, Winchester, Grayson and Pikeville (none at Elizabethtown; Springfield is another WWI memorial)

Maine — Lincoln

Maryland — Grisfield and Emmitsburg (correct spelling is Crisfield)

Omitted state of Massachusetts, where there is an EMV Doughboy at Winchendon.

Michigan — St. Joseph, Port Huron and South Haven (omitted Berkley; Port Huron is EMV WWII "Spirit of the Fighting Yank", South Haven is Paulding's "Over the Top")

Minnesota — Sedalia, Alba and Green Castle (This should be Missouri, where only Sedalia is correct, "Alba" should be Albany (another Paulding), and Green Castle is another statue. The correct state, Minnesota, only has one EMV "Spirit" at New Ulm.)

Omitted state of Missouri, listing its locations above as Minnesota. Missouri has three EMV Doughboys, at Bolivar, Lexington, and Sedalia.

Omitted state of Mississippi, where there is an EMV Doughboy at Meridian.

Montana — Missoula, Columbia Falls, Fort Benton and Kalispell (Paulding strikes again at Missoula, and Kalispell is the same EMV Doughboy that was moved to Columbia Falls in 1972)

Nebraska — Valentine and Omaha (Paulding again at Valentine; Omaha had an EMV "Spirit", but it disappeared around 1959)

New Jersey — Dover, Delmar, Matawan, Rochelle Park, Perth, Amboy, Cliffside Park and Verona (it's Belmar and Roselle Park; Cliffside Park is one of Allen Newman's three famous Doughboy statues; Verona is a different statue; omitted Fair Haven, Frenchtown, Secaucus, and it's Perth Amboy, not two separate names)

New York — Port Huron, Bolton Landing, Rochester and Castile (no such place as Port Huron in NY; Paulding again at Bolton Landing, and Harrison and Vestal were omitted, and Rochester has no such statue)

State of North Carolina omitted; has two EMV Doughboys at Charlotte and Nashville.

North Dakota — Wahpeton (nope; it's good ol' John Paulding with his "Over the Top to Victory")

Ohio — Gallippolis, New Philadelphia, Cincinnati suburb St. Bernard, Warren, Marion, Fortoria, Newark, Woodville, Zanesville, Swanton, Martin’s Ferry and New California (it's Gallipolis and Fostoria; Martins [no apostrophe] Ferry is Paulding's Doughboy again, and New California appears to be a Civil War monument; Akron, Blue Ash (Cincinnati), and Crooksville were omitted)

Oklahoma — Tyrone, Hobart, Henryetta and Muskogee (Tyrone is another statue; omitted Cherokee and Granite)

Pennsylvania — New Brighton, Chambersburg, Mount Pleasant, Meyersdale, Mileburg, Philadelphia, Scottsdale and Lancaster (it's Scottdale, though Viquesney himself made the same spelling error in one of his sales brochures; New Brighton is another statue, as is Mount Pleasant; Milesburg is spelled wrong and is also not an EMV Doughboy; Philadelphia is a Paulding Doughboy; omitted Egypt, Forest City, Indiana, Oil City, Scranton, Tatamy, and Verona)

South Carolina — Columbia (omitted Anderson, Greenville, and a modern 2002 bronze reproduction also in Columbia)

Omitted state of South Dakota, where there is a Viquesney Doughboy at Bullhead.

Tennessee — Brownsville, Clarksville and Johnson City (not in Brownsville; Clarksville is unsigned, uncopyrighted, and is lacking the characteristic gas mask pouch, field pack, and canteen)

Texas — Houston, Victoria, Wichita Falls, Fort Worth, Canyon, Groesbeck, Sinton, Cornwell and New Braunfels (not in Houston or Victoria; it's Crowell, not "Cornwell"; omitted Lufkin and Vernon)

Utah — Vernal and Mount Pleasant (omitted Beaver and Price)

Omitted state of Vermont, which has two Viquesney Doughboys at Enosburg Falls and St. Albans.

Virginia — Petersburg, Hillsville, Marion and Wythvulle (only Petersburg has an EMV Doughboy, so the misspelling of Wytheville is moot; no such statue also at Marion and Hillsville)

Washington — Aberdeen and Seattle (Seattle is "American Doughboy Bringing Home Victory" by Alonzo Victor Lewis)

West Virginia — Wheeling, Logan, Madison, Phillipi and Martinsburg (one "L", two "P"s in Philippi; Martinsburg is another Doughboy by Walter A. Sinz)

Wisconsin — Jonesville, West Bend, Fort Atkison, Appleton and Ladysmith (it's Janesville and Fort Atkinson; Ladysmith [for the last time] is John Paulding's "Over the Top to Victory"; omitted Markesan and Peshtigo)

Wyoming — Rock Springs and Cody (the Historical Society in Cody has never heard of any such statue there)
