The Harlan County Black Bears pulled away in the fourth quarter to edge North Laurel 51-43 in the fifth-place game of the WYMT Mountain Classic on Saturday.

Senior Chad Massingill snapped out of a recent scoring slump with 16 points to power the Black Bears. Massingill had a pair of treys in the first quarter, but North Laurel managed to take a 14-11 advantage after the opening period.

Senior Alex Sergent added two 3-pointers of his own in the second quarter as Harlan County took a 24-23 lead into the half.

Massingill had Harlan County’s first two baskets to open the second half. He then capped the period with a 3-pointer to tie the game at 33.

Sophomore Tyler Miller put Harlan County up early in the final quarter with an offensive rebound putback and a jumper. Miller also had a dunk late in the period to help put the game away. Miller and senior forward Aaron Caldwell each had 10 points in the win to give Harlan County a solid presence in the paint.

Harlan County (16-3) returns to action Friday at Bell County in a 52nd District doubleheader. North laurel (10-9)will travel to Corbin today.
