Breast Cancer Awareness

Harlan County Schools Family Resource and Youth Services Centers, the Harlan County Extension Agency and Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital hosted a breast cancer awareness program Thursday at the Depot in Harlan. Dr. Fazal Ahmad (above), the keynote speaker, explained warning signs and the importance of early detection. He discussed the various stages and types of breast cancers, treatments and preventive measures. He stressed the importance of self-breast exams for every woman. In the photo below at left, ARH radiology department employee Pam Bailey talks about the new digital mammography offered at ARH which is cutting edge for very early detection and the importance of annual mammograms. Daniel Boone Clinic nurse Linda G. Fisher assists Harlan County High School YSC Director Janet White with preparing awareness information for participants. This event is hosted annually during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
