A lifelong resident of Harlan County, he was the manager of Kentucky Finance Company for almost 30 years. He was most recently the manager of Heights Finance Corporation in Harlan.
Simpson was a 1964 graduate of Loyall High School and a graduate of Lincoln Memorial university in Harrogate, Tenn. He was a member of the Pine Flat Baptist Church, and a member of the Loyall Masonic Lodge No. 930 F. & A.M.
He is preceded in death by his father, Delmer Lee Simpson.
Survivors include his mother, Gladys Pillion Simpson, of Dayhoit; two children: Christopher Ray Simpson and wife, Michelle, Lawnvale, and Jacqueline Simpson Saylor and husband, Charlie, Coldiron; a brother, the Rev. Gary Simpson and wife, Betty, Dayhoit; four grandchildren: Aaron and Taylor Simpson; and Andrew and Haven Saylor; an ex-wife, Cladella Simpson, Dayhoit; a special friend, Karen Anderson, Harlan; nieces and nephews: Gina Wilson and husband, Jeff, Loyall; Janice Burkhart, Knoxville, Tenn.; and Craig Simpson and wife, Sheri, Dayhoit.
Visitation is today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Anderson & Laws Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted today at 8 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Gary Simpson and the Rev. Shannon Benefiel officiating.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. on Friday in Resthaven Cemetery at Keith.
Pallbearers will be Gary Saylor, Elmer Reynolds, Jay Whitaker, Craig Simpson and Simpson's cousins.
