Upcoming events were discussed during a recent meeting of the Harlan County Chamber of Commerce. Executive Director Jennifer Lee encouraged business members to take an interest and participate in the events being planned.

“Hoping to open on Aug. 3, we are planning a ribbon cutting ceremony and a friends and family event at the new Hamrick Bowling Center in Harlan,” said Lee. “Everyone is looking forward to the grand opening of the new bowling center.”

A Microsoft office 365 seminar is also being planned on the Harlan campus of Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College at 6 p.m. on Aug. 16. Lee said this is the “much anticipated cloud service that gives small business the capabilities and efficiencies to grow and target more rapid success.” She said over $500 in door prizes will be given away during this seminar.

“You don’t want to miss this one,” said Lee. “Mark your calendar today so you don’t miss out.”

Planned for sometime in September is an educational workshop on digital marketing and search engine optimization (SEO) in conjunction with the Harlan Daily Enterprise. Lee said the Harlan County Chamber of Commerce is excited about working with the Harlan Daily Enterprise to present an educational workshop on how to use digital marketing, in particular SEO.

“This will show how to increase a company’s digital presence, and most importantly grow their market share,” said Lee. “Digital marketing is an ever changing landscape and it’s our goal to increase the knowledge base of anyone who currently has a Web presence and wants to maximize their investment, as well as show someone who is new to digital marketing and has questions on where to start.”

Set on the calendar for Nov. 10 will the chamber’s awards gala at the Harlan Center. Lee said this will be a formal affair and give everyone a chance to “dress up, have a wonderful sit down dinner and dance.” She said anyone wishing to help with the planning of the event may contact her on the chamber’s Facebook page or call 573-4717.
