The Loyall Fire Department is searching for ways to fund playground equipment for the city’s park. Fire chief Vern Guffy noted at a recent council meeting that the equipment would be a wonderful asset for the residents.
Guffy said during that meeting last week that he has been looking into several options, including road blocks, that will help the department raise funds to add the equipment to the park located on KY 840.
During the discussion, several people in attendance said that local businesses will often donate toward the purchase of the equipment if they are aware that it is needed.
“It would be a great addition to the park for the kids,” Guffy said, noting that he had recently installed four new grills at the park.
“No one has used them as of yet. I guess they aren’t aware that they are there. But they are and the people are welcome to use them,” Guffy said, noting that he has several more of the grills he hasn’t installed yet.
Guffy also pointed out the importance of installing a fence around the playground for added protection from the highway once the playground equipment is in place.
The council agreed to allow Guffy to continue looking into funding options for the playground equipment, noting that it would be a much appreciated asset to the community.
Guffy said he had at least one volunteer who was willing to work with him on the project and added that anyone else interested in helping should contact him at city hall during normal business hours.
In other action during last week’s meeting, the council approved the second reading of the city’s new insurance tax ordinance. A copy my be obtained upon request at city hall.
The council also accepted the police, fire, sewer and financial reports.
