Gerald "Batman" Garris, 76, of Cumberland passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at Pattie A Clay Regional Medical Center in Richmond following a long illness.

He was a native of Lynch and had lived in Cumberland most of his life. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, member of VFW Post 5171 of Cumberland, retired coal miner and believed in the Catholic faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Yaden Garris; his parents, Karl and Nannie Thompson Garris; and one brother, Karl "Bud" Garris.

Survivors include two daughters, Susie Garris, Richmond, and Patti (Bill) Duncum, Georgetown; one sister, Virginia Meurer, Alexandria; and two grandchildren, Trey Duncum and Kristen Duncum, Georgetown.

Visitation will be held 6-9pm Friday, December 14, 2007 at Tri City Funeral Home in Benham. Funeral services will be conducted at 1pm Saturday, December 15, 2007 in the Chapel of Tri City Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Huff Cemetery in Cumberland. Graveside military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 5171 of Cumberland.

Matt Miller, Craig Miller, Bill Miller, Wayne Yaden, Jerry Garris and Kevin Garris will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Allen, Jack Woodard, Gene Plowman, Bill Duncum, Sr., Robert Falls, John Neverstitch, and Lee Henry.
