Ann Wilson, thank you very much for the update on Joy and Buddy Turner and George Norton. I am going to try to contact Buddy, as I live about 30 miles from Paw Paw, MI.

Your brother John Dee was one of my teachers at Green Hills School. Those were good old days.

I grew up in Bledsoe, KY, attended Pine Mountain and Loyall High School and Bledsoe Baptist Church. My mother, Nan, and Lola Robinson were good friends so I have maintained contact with Buddy Turner and George Norton throughout the years. Buddy is the pastor of a church in Paw Paw, MI and George lives in Indiana. I see them occasionally at reunions. Unfortunately, Joy Turner, Buddy's sister, passed away several years ago.

I want to wish everyone "back home" a very happy and peaceful Christmas. I would love to hear from anyone who attended Green Hills School at Bledsoe, or Loyall High School, or James A Cawood High School. Does anyone know the whereabouts of Joy Turner or Buddy Turner, or George Norton? They were raised at Bledsoe, by Lola Robinson, a missionary. Any help would be appreciated.

Taylorite, As a minister and a pastor, but most of all as a Christian, I believe the Bible account over the scientific account. The Bible says that God created all that exist in seven days, and a day in Bible terms is a 24 hr period between to successive sunrises. The Hebrew people reckoned their day from evening to evening, the period of time between two successive sunsets either way it's only 24 hrs.(Gen. 1:5, 8; Ex. 12:18; Lev. 23:32). Nothing existed before God created it. For Science to be right they need each of those days of creation to be millions of years but according to the Bible they aren't...So those who believe the Bible can't believe that humanity existed hundreds of millions of years ago. In my opinion if it had existed that long then we were mighty dumb for a mighty long time since technology didn't begin to advance until a couple hundred years ago, or less. Some people will tell you that the Bible doesn't say how long those days were but it does right there in the text of Genesis 1. I don't believe that God would change His way of measuring time from then until now. Hebrews 13:8 says "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and for ever. Jesus Christ is God! May His blessings be upon us all...

Taylorite, ConcernedReader reminds us of the Reason for Christmes. Scientists believe mankind is millions of years old and most Christians think it's only about six thousand. Who knows for sure? One thing is certain, if man has progressed at all he should be able to live with his fellow-man without war. Maybe we haven't progressed at all. Happy Holidays! from Taylorite

Merry Christmas to all the good folks of Harlan County

Calvin Coolidge once said that “Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas.”

He also said that "There's more, much more, to Christmas Than candlelight and cheer; It's the spirit of sweet friendship That brightens all year. It's thoughtfulness and kindness, It's hope reborn again, For peace, for understanding, And for goodwill to men!”

Calvin Coolidge was the 30th President of the United States... There was someone a lot more important than Mr. Coolidge, as important as he was who once wrote about a great event in the history of the world that is recorded in the Bible...

The reason that Luke wrote this was because the greatest announcement that was ever made had just taken place...

Listen to what the angel said to the people that great day...

Luke 2:9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. Verse 10 says "And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people." ". Verse 11 "For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. Verse 12 "And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. Verse 13 "And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Verse 14 "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."

Always remember that Jesus is he reason for the season!

May all that Jesus is be reflected in all that we are...

Taylorite says, In regards to the new attempt at tourism for Harlan County, When I visit Harlan I am disappointed at the mess left by four-wheelers. The mountains are defaced and the streets (especially around Evarts) are filthy. The small amount of revenue they bring in is too little to warrant the aggravation left behind.

Taylorite from Taylor Michigan, went to highschool in Evarts, early '60s. Left in 1965 and always thought I'd come back after retirement. But when i visit I remember what the poet said; "You can't go home'. It's sad but true.

I'd like to see a picture of the original Green Hills Elementary School, Bledsoe KY. I found that the school originated from the Pine Mtn Settlement School and the Harlan county school systems (1972 opened) but can't find any pictures of the school before the 1972 current GHE building. Does anyone know where I can find more info on the original school from the 1950's to 1960's era?
