The Harlan 9- and 10-year-old all-stars overcame a first-round loss to reach the championship round of the District 4 Tournament at North London.

Harlan claimed two wins over the weekend, routing Wayne County 9-1 before knocking off North London 8-4.

The Wayne County game, originally scheduled for Saturday, was postponed by rain after two innings and was completed Sunday afternoon.

Harlan scored five runs in the first to effectively put the game away. The inning was highlighted by Jared Fuson's base-clearing double.

Tyler Grubbs took the mound in the second inning and pitched three frames as he picked up the win. Fuson, Alex Sergent and Tyler Boggs also pitched for Harlan.

Fuson led the team at the plate with two singles and a double. Zach Hollins doubled and singled and Sergent singled twice. Grubbs doubled, and Boggs and Ty Saragas each added singles.

The North Laurel game started about 45 minutes after Harlan's previous contest ended. But Harlan showed little sign of fatigue, taking control of the game with a three-run second inning. Back-to-back doubles by Boggs and Austin Maggard accounted for the runs.

Harlan scored another four runs in the fifth on Andrew Dozier's two-run double and Hollins' two-run single.

Maggard doubled twice and singled for Harlan, and Hollins added a double and two singles. Boggs doubled twice and Chad Massingill singled twice. Dozier added a double and Saragas and Grubbs each contributed singles.

Fuson, Saragas, Sergent and Boggs combined to hold North London to three hits. Saragas earned the win.

Harlan will face Rockcastle County tonight at 6. Rockcastle claimed a 6-3 win over Harlan in seven innings in the first round of the tournament Wednesday.

If Harlan wins, the teams will square off again Tuesday at 7 p.m.
